Uniform
Effective teaching and learning are supported by a purposeful and orderly environment. The smart and tidy appearance of our uniform helps to instil discipline and promotes pride in appearance in pupils. It also helps reduce distractions to learning. All our uniform items are gender neutral.
High schools are permitted four branded items of uniform. At Hobart, our branded items are: the school tie, blazer with logo, skirt with logo (if chosen rather than trousers) and PE polo shirt with logo. Other items of uniform that feature logos are optional (such as those in the PE section below).

We are very proud of our uniform with its smart blazer and tie. We aim to maintain high standards at Hobart and will regularly check that pupils are adhering to our policy. Please read the information below regarding our uniform expectations and please call before you buy if you any queries.

Pre-Loved Uniform
We have a stock of pre-loved uniform for purchase at the school. If you wish to explore the availability of items or arrange a visit for viewing/fitting please email: bwillis@hobart.org.uk
There are two weekly slots available for visits – Tuesdays (9.30am – 10.30am) and Thursdays (2.15pm – 3.30pm). Please contact the school if these times are not suitable.
The standard uniform is as follows:
Black blazer with school logo for all students (available from Screens - our uniform supplier). Sleeves should not be rolled up.
Shirt Long or short sleeved plain white with conventional collar and with buttons to the neck so that a tie can be worn (no tee shirts, no polo/polo necked shirts). The shirt must be tucked into the waistband of trousers/skirt/shorts so should not be a fitted blouse style.
Tie with school colours/design to be worn.
Jumper A black plain V-neck knitted jumper is optional (no logo). This should be worn underneath a blazer rather than instead of a blazer.
Skirt School skirt – black woven fabric of the correct style and length (around knee length) featuring the school logo. No lycra or stretch fabric. Available from Screens – styles available are Henley, Charleston or Pencil skirt with logo.
Trousers Black tailored full-length school trousers in woven fabric with a traditional straight leg. No jeans or jean style trousers, cords flares, chinos, leggings, joggers, harem pants, or tight/slim/skinny-fit styles. Trousers must be loose enough to hold a crease the full length and must not be rolled or turned up. Available from Screens, supermarkets (including our recommended suppliers).
Shorts Tailored woven black fabric shorts (which will maintain a crease along the entire length). They may be worn as an alternative to trousers. Black school shoes to be worn with shorts. Shorts are permitted between the start of June half term, until the end of the October half term. Available from Screens or our other recommended suppliers.

Tights Plain black or flesh coloured.
Footwear Black, sensible school shoes suitable for labs and workshops. Platform soles and high heels are not permitted. Black trainers, trainer-style shoes and Vans-style pumps are not allowed. Trainer features include visible logos, multiple lace holes, and the absence of a distinct heel and raised Achilles support.
Make-up needs to be natural and discreet. No false eyelashes.
Coloured nail varnish, artificial gel, acrylic or false nails are not permitted.
Jewellery On health and safety grounds, we do not allow pupils to wear jewellery with the exception of a pair of small ear studs (one per ear), a plain ring and a wristwatch. SMART watches that can be used for receiving/sending messages are not allowed. Please note that we do not allow any facial or other body part piercings. Jewellery must be removed for PE and the PE department will provide a safe place to leave items. If your child is considering a piercing, we would insist you arrange it at the start of the summer holidays to avoid disruption to PE lessons and so your child can keep to uniform expectations. Should healing take longer than six weeks, please be aware we will insist on studs being removed whilst in school.
Badges other than those awarded by the school, students should not wear badges on their uniform (e.g. on ties or blazers).
Hair Styles Hair should be neat, tidy and not exaggerated. Hair should be of a natural colour, not excessively short/shaved, without ‘tram lines’ or patterns and not over spiked. Hairstyles must be appropriate for school and not infringe health and safety regulations. Long hair must be tied back for practical lessons such as Design Technology or Science.
PE Uniform
We have a broad PE curriculum so students will experience a wide range of activities. Therefore, correct kit is very important. It can be purchased from Screens (see address and contact details above). PE kit items:
- Navy blue Hobart logo polo or fitted shirt (required)
- Navy blue shorts or skort
- Long navy blue socks and white sports socks
- Optional Navy blue Hobart logo sports ¼ zip track top
- Optional Hobart logo blue hoodie for colder weather/outdoor (or black/dark plain hoodie for colder weather - discreet logos)
- Black plain no logo leggings, optional
Students should not modify their uniforms, for example; by cutting it, writing on it or adding decorations.
