Careers Guidance
At Hobart High School we are passionate about the importance of good quality, impartial and independent careers advice, information and guidance.
We aim to raise aspirations of our young people through our careers education and other activities. We ensure that they are informed about the changing world of work and the opportunities available to them. We assist them to make effective and well placed applications to Sixth Form, College, Apprenticeships or Work-based Learning.
We assess the impact of our careers provision through reviewing destinations data/information for our students once they have left Hobart, and including questions linked to careers education within our student survey.
We aim to meet the personalised needs of each of our young people. To assist with this we focus on the 8 Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance, they are:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each student
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experience of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
To achieve this, we work with our Enterprise Co-ordinator and Enterprise Adviser from New Anglia Enterprise Adviser Network and have completed the compass tool.
Hobart High school works in partnership with Beacon East to ensure there is fully trained (minimum Level 6) independent and impartial careers guidance available to students in Years 7 - 11. Beacon East is a Matrix Standard quality approved careers guidance provider with over a decade of experience in the careers sector. This successful partnership also ensures Hobart High School fuflills the statutory responsibility of providing quality careers guidance, as defined by the latest government guidelines (January 2018) and the Gatsby Framework for 'good careers' in schools.
