The PSHE Curriculum
PSHE Education and Citizenship is delivered to all students through the Personal and Social Development curriculum and follows the National Framework for PSHE Education and the Statutory Citizenship Programmes of Study. In both key stages the programme is delivered by a specialist team with one lesson per fortnight for Key Stage 3 and three lessons per fortnight for Key Stage 4. This is further enhanced by opportunities available to students outside of lesson time. The course includes work on Healthy and Safe Lifestyles, Sex and Relationship Education, Drug Education, Communities and Identities, Government and Democracy, Rights and Responsibilities, Economic Wellbeing, Financial Capability, Target Setting and Personal Identity, Study Skills, Revision and Exam Techniques and Class Council Meetings. They also follow a clear programme of Career & Enterprise Education and Religious Education. Throughout the PSD programme students are encouraged to develop the skills of enquiry and communication, participation and responsible action; to make the most of their capabilities, develop good relationships and respect the differences between people.
The PSD course is not examined at GCSE level.
